Vertical Man's 2006 Race Calendar

Race early. Race often. Race hard. Race smart. Race like you mean it. What's my mantra again? Oh yeah. Finish Vertically, NOT Horizontally!

  • 3/19: March Madness, Cary, IL (1/2 marathon)
  • 4/9: Valparaiso Mini-Marathon, Valparaiso, IN (1/2 marathon)
  • 4/30: Steelcase Grand Duathlon, Kentwood, MI (5K/30K/5K duathlon)
  • 5/20: Galena Triathlon, Galena, IL (sprint-distance triathlon)
  • 6/4: Seahorse Challenge, Kalamazoo, MI (Olympic-distance triathlon)
  • 6/17: Horribly Hilly Hundreds, Blue Mounds, WI (200K ride)
  • 7/2: 5th/3rd Firecracker, Benton Harbor, MI (sprint-distance triathlon)
  • 7/15: Splish Splash Swim, Lake in the Hills, IL (2-mile swim)
  • 8/5: Whirlpool Steelhead Triathlon, Benton Harbor, MI (1/2 Ironman)
  • 9/10: Ironman Wisconsin, Madison, WI (My 'A' race)
  • 9/17: Devil’s Challenge tri (relay), Baraboo, WI (sprint-distance triathlon)
  • 10/15: Rotary Run for Wellness, Hinsdale, IL (10K run)
  • 11/12: Westchester Veterun, Westchester, IL (10K run)
  • 11/19: La Grange Rotary Fun-run, La Grange, IL (5K run)
  • 11/23: Bonfield Express run, Downers Grove, IL (5K run)
  • 12/1: Full, total, utter collapse, preferably on a clothing-optional beach somewhere.

And yes, CoachKaryn approved the schedule...though she still thinks I'm nuts.

Gone from last year: Wine Country half-marathon (Paso Robles, CA), Silver Springs Sixty ride (cancelled by the sponsoring organization), Downers Grove 10-miler, Mideast Sprint Championship (Winona Lake, IN), Pardeeville Sprint (WI), Pewaukee Lake Tri (WI), Accenture Chicago Tri and the Prairie View Tri (Vicksburg, MI).

New this year: half marathons in Cary (IL) and Valparaiso (IN), the dreaded Horribly Hilly Hundreds ride and the even more-dreaded Splish Splash Swim, 5th/3rd Firecracker and, of course, IMWI.

A sprint tri the week after IMWI?! Yikes. You're a brave man!

That's a chock full race season. Looks like a fun one! See you in Madison! :)

I also have a 1/2 iron a month out from an IM this year. Won't we be cozy feeling.

First, glad to see you're back and posting more often!

Second, while the race schedule seems really full, all the distances could be treated as extensions of your training. Signing up for a race and treating it as a training day is a great way to ensure you don't skip the training.
