Race Wheels

Anybody have any good advice regarding race wheels? I've been looking at various Great Suburban Outback bike shops and have collected a bewildering amount of advice. Mavic vs. HED vs. Zipp. Bearings, spokes, construction, aero vs not, maintenance, fragility and cost appear to be only the tip of the purchasing issues iceberg.

About the only conclusion I've reached is that I probably don't want to make this an on-line purchase. I need more product support than that. Other ideas?

Update: I'm looking at the HED Alps and the Mavic Ksyrium SSC wheels. Zipp wheels have been given uniformly bad reviews everyplace I've gone, even at some places that sell them. Oh, and there's the whole tubular vs. clinchers debate...

Steve, i have a set of Mavic Ksyrium SSC wheels. There 700s and setup for Shimano DuraAce (but would probably fit any shimano... your LBS would know). It has a 9 speed cassette. There about a year and a half old. If interested, i can email ya some pics. Not sure what used ones sell for but i can check ebay and give a good price.
