Race Report: Lombard (IL) Home Health 5K

Trust me: staying up 'til 1:30 A.M. and consuming all the wrong foodstuffs is NOT the best pre-race preparation one could engage in. But the good folks organizing the Lombard (IL) Home Health 5K didn't care about my bad behavior, and they refused to move the race start time to 4:00 P.M. even though I asked really nicely. Not even snow flurries and gusty winds could dissuade them from their assigned duties, and when the gun sounded right on schedule at 8:30 A.M., it almost drowned out the sound of my teeth chattering.

My time for the hilly course was 21:38, well off my ultimate goal of sub-20:00, but my pace of 6:58 was my first sub-7:00 pace ever, and I GOT FIRST PLACE IN MY AGE GROUP (M40-49!) I GOT A FREAKIN' TROPHY! Slow field is all I can say.

I'm gonna spend the rest of the day in the jacuzzi. And no snotty comments from the Sunbelt about our weather, either. From the right angle, frostbite looks a lot like a suntan.

That is a super fast time, AND a trophy!!! Good for you, wish I could run that fast!

WOW, a trophy huh? Nice! Cracked up about the suntan line, btw. And yes, this weather sucks!

Great job, and have fun in the jacuzzi! Well, no - I mean- nevermind.

That is just so cool. Way to suck it up. Sounds like you need to duplicate your pre-race plan for future dates.
