I just registered for the Whirlpool Steelhead Triathlon on August 6, 2005. Held in Benton Harbor, MI, it's my first half-Ironman distance tri.
Just my pride was at risk if I'd backed out before today. But now there's an even more powerful motivator at work: money. I'm committed...$150 bucks worth. Remember: finish vertically, not horizontally. Onward and upward.

I made the same mistake. Signed up for my 1st half iron (Eagleman @ Blackwater), coming this June. Have done a bunch of sprint tri's and one Olympic, so this will be different. What kinda weekly mileage are u putting now, half way to your race, and pre-taper?
Right now my weekly training hours are in the 9-11 range. I've got a
few 15 hour weeks coming up balanced by some 7 hour "recovery" weeks.
My run mileage is currently around 20 per week. I'm sure
that'll increase as the season progresses.
I've got an Olympic-distance tri 2 weeks before my half-Ironman and I'm
assuming the intervening time will be taper. I'm relying on the advice
of my trainer.
Best wishes to you for healthy and safe training and a great racing
season! Thanks for your comment.
