I love the smell of burning leaves in the fall, though I prefer mulching 'em to burning. Why should I labor unnecessarily when the worms are content to spend the winter tunneling and pooping, leaving behind their so-called "worm casings" and turning 14 cubic yards of leaves into a few bushels of compost? Plus, I'd probably burn down the neighborhood.
But someone here in the Great Suburban Outback hasn't yet gotten The Goracle's eco-message. Yesterday, the air was sweet with essence of maple...at least until my neighbor fired up a grill. Leaves aflame smell way better than flaming pig fat.
