Dead Cat Bounce

I'm starting to feel my age. Any time you bend over to pick up a towel and can't work out for 3 days, well, maybe someone's trying to tell you something.

I should be back at it tomorrow. Karyn recommends an easy 30-60 minutes on the elliptical trainer and/or stationary bike. Unfortunately, the Weather Geek's forecast calls for a sunny, 73 degree day. What rotten luck. I may have to test things outdoors instead.

I'm joining Karyn's masters swim class on Monday to begin a swim technique tune-up. It's interesting: most of my improvement in 2005 came in the swim. I was expecting to really improve biking and running; I didn't. I'd resigned myself to always being a poor swimmer; I shouldn't have. My per-100 times are now consistently below 2:00 and I'm capable of 1:30's in short bursts. Karyn says I'm capable of even better, so the process begins on Monday. It's nice to hear her confidence even if I am paying her to say nice things!

I'll also be reviewing my 2005 season evaluation and 2006 race goals with her. The short version: 2005 will be remembered as perhaps the best summer of my life. I did pretty damn good in most of my races, too. 2006 will be interesting. Fewer, longer races. More and longer workouts. And of course, lots of WIBAs with Wil to get ready for IMMOO (that's Wisconsin Ironman Brick Adventures for the uninitiated among you dear readers.)

Hey, two blog posts in one week. Maybe I have hit bottom. Course even a dead cat'll bounce given the right conditions.

Yep, I think that's a sign from God that it's time to hire a maid. :-)

It was DEFINITELY an awesome summer. The SEBAs will go down in history - I know the WIBAs will be aweome as well. I hope we can get Shelley to come out again (she's about the only one who can keep up with you at THIS rate!)

I'm glad your back among the Blogger living - missed ya. And don't worry about that towel thing - you're body's not used to actually stopping for a change! I bet the circuits just got crossed for a bit. This off season will be good for you - after this year, you definitely deserve it!

you've had a great summer for sure. thanks for sharing it with us. you will do even better next summer i am sure. give yourself a break and let your body recover.

and next time, bend down to get the towel with your knees. ;)

OK, y'all are the best. Thanks for reading, supporting and advising. I'm thinking the maid thing. Picking a towel up with my knees sounds like a recipe for more pain!

no, i meant bend with your knees, not your back. somehow that came across wrong! but the maid works too. send her to my house once she's finished at yours. ;)
