Tapering is boring. Today it was a :45 minute, 5-mile run with a few 90-second race-pace intervals thrown in, race pace for me being about 8:30 miles. Then I got on the bike for 1:25 and 22 miles of nice, small chain-ring spinning.
Yesterday I did 2,650 in the pool, made up of 2X1,000 and 3X200, with an additional 50 for good measure. Not the 3,000 I'd set out to do, but my lower back tightened up and I decided that a healthy back is more important to Steelhead success than 350 more freestyle yards. On Sunday (which is officially part of LAST week's training schedule), Intrepid Training Partner and I biked for 2:30 and 40 miles.
Nothing strenuous about any of these workouts; we're just adding a nice, glowing readiness to months and months of training. Now I'm off to a local running store to stock up on gels and other Steelhead cocka-rocka.

Man, you guys waiting around for this race is making me crazy! Come on Sunday...Wil, Shelley and VM need this to happen!
Take a nap or something...
Hey, it's making me crazy too! A nap sounds real good.
Yeppers. I hate tapering with a passion! The worst part is not being able to eat like a pig.
You can come here and clean my apartment and run a few errands for me if you're really hard up for something to do. Anything for a cyberpal, you know...
Hey, I rock at cleaning and errands! Just hand me a mop and point me at the dirt!
