Tuesday's Triathlon Workout (3/8/05)

Yesterday was an off day in case you're wondering. No training but lots of goofing off. I started a new book: "Excursion to Tindari: An Inspector Montalbano Mystery" by Andrea Camilleri. A great mystery with a sun-drenched, atmosphere-laden Sicilian setting...and all that implies.

Today's bike workout was the first of three "breakthrough" workouts this week designed to determine if I'm making any progress. The workout's main feature was a 30-minute time trial. i.e. go as far, as fast and as hard as you can for thirty minutes. Race pace or better. The gory details:

First, a 20-minute warm-up:

  • Average pedalling cadence - 83
  • Avg heart rate - 105
  • Total miles - 4.9
  • Avg MPH - 14.7

The time trial's first 10 minutes:

  • Average cadence - 95
  • Average heart rate - 134
  • Total miles - 3.9
  • Avg MPH - 23.4

The time trial's next 20 minutes:

  • Average cadence - 97
  • Max cadence - 108
  • Average heart rate - 143
  • Max HR - 155
  • Total miles - 8.9
  • Average MPH - 26.7
  • Max MPH - 32.1

A S-L-O-W 10-minute cool-down completed things.

So what does this all mean? Beats the stuffing outta me; I'll wait for Karyn's opinion. But it was kinda fun. Tomorrow's BT workout is a swim and that's gonna suck; "breakthrough swim" is still an oxymoronic term for me.
