Know Your Training Partner

I'm thinking about yesterday and SEBA #3 (see the post below.) It's now 24 hours post-freakout and a gorgeous day, but the terror of losing someone to Lake Michigan is still fresh and vivid. Thirteen years ago, almost to the day, our family lost two loved ones in the lake. That's a story for another day, but the resonances are impossible to escape.

Yesterday's first-responder was a St. Joseph police officer. After the "incident" was over and I'd calmed down, he offered some advice that may do y'all some good, though I hope you NEVER have to use it. Simply put, know your training partner. See, while I've gotten to know Wil as an Awesome Training Partner, I didn't have "police officer-quality" info: address, phone number, age, make/model of car, etc. Why would I have that stuff? No reason. Unless....

Wow, I'm so sorry about your two loved ones, that must have made things even more horrible for you yesterday!

Thank you again for calling, I'm really lucky that you were out there, just in case...

Good advice, thanks!

I hope yesterday's fortunate outcome helps balance out (just a tiny bit) your earlier loss out there.

As an avid fan of emergancy rooms...well why else would I be there so much, I make it a point to leave all the pertinent info of whats up with my wife and with those I am with. It sometimes sounds like bragging, "yeah um remember now, here is my vital card with address phone, wife, also heat stroke, closed head injury, open head injury, amnesia, a dozen concussions, yada yada yada..." but its whats most important.

You are so right VM and thanks for reminding us all that its only fun until some cant remember what their name is...oh wait, that usually is just me.
